Loverboy Scam

Say no when love turns into prostitution!

For many young women in prostitution, the "loverboy" scam is the gateway into prostitution. This method involves deceiving underage girls into believing they are in a romantic relationship. The perpetrators are often charming, young, and attractive, and initiate contact via social media. The victim is made dependent on the perpetrator. Then, a desperate situation—often debt—is fabricated. The seemingly only solution: the victim turns to prostitution to earn money. The number of such cases is not officially recorded by the police. Many victims do not report the "loverboy," even though the scam is a crime, namely human trafficking and forced prostitution. To protect potential victims, the MISA team educates students in schools about the "loverboy" method.

Over two class periods, the workshop explains what the "loverboy" tactic is, how to recognize it, and where to find help. There is also time for discussion and questions. Through various exercises, students learn to recognize, respect, and communicate boundaries. This aims to empower young people and raise their awareness of abuse. Schools, institutions, and organizations are welcome to request the prevention project "The Loverboy Scheme – Say No When Love Turns into Prostitution!" from us.

Project SELMA

Raising awareness and empowering people in prostitution

The collaborative project “SELMA – Sensitization and Empowerment for People in Prostitution,” funded by the European Social Fund as part of the EhaP Plus program, rests on two pillars: On the one hand, the project partners Aidshilfe Tübingen-Reutlingen and Arkade eV provide low-threshold counseling services in the districts of Ravensburg and Lake Constance for people in prostitution who are particularly affected by poverty and exclusion (empowerment). On the other hand, in line with anti-stigma work, the project aims to inform the general public and (future) employees of public authorities about the complex and controversial topic of “prostitution/sex work” through workshops, events, and social media campaigns (sensitization).

WHO WE ARE

Stories from prostitution

The biography project "Who we are - stories from prostitution" gives five people who are or were active in the field of sex work and prostitution the opportunity to tell their life stories in a self-determined and authentic way.

The result is a book that reflects on and documents experiences and life stories in a safe space. Those who share their stories are heard – and those who are heard become part of the social dialogue. The interviews connect personal stories with societal relevance.

                                                  __________

"After school, I worked with flowers in Romania. I trained as a florist. I understand everything there. How to arrange flowers. For weddings, very beautiful. Working with flowers. You can earn good money. I also have a diploma there. Only ten, ten, ten points... Only the best grades. A flower vending machine, that would be a good business idea, then to have one here too. There aren't that many of them."

__________This project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Family, Seniors, Women and Youth as part of the federal program "Democracy Live!" and was created with the help of the Partnership for Democracy in Friedrichshafen.
